Knife and firearm offences

Firearm offences

Offences where a firearm was fired, used as a threat or used as a blunt instrument; conventional air weapons are excluded. This overlaps other offence categories and must not be added to all crime. It is not a count of shootings alone. National totals exclude British Transport Police. History contains published annual observations and the latest equivalent rolling years. Recording improvements limit historical comparisons; the Metropolitan Police changed systems in February 2024 and revised figures from April 2024.

This page contains a published snapshot. The interactive comparison shows the latest validated data and its actual dates. Monthly source checks do not create new monthly official observations.

These are separate collections which overlap other offence groups. Published annual observations and the latest equivalent rolling years retain their actual dates; no intervening quarters are invented. Open an area comparison for its dated history and recording caveats.
